I’m sure we all have an elderly person we want to help whether it be a grandparent, or another loved one. Have you ever thought about a way to help them? Well, personally, I have thought of different ways to do this. Below are some ways that you can do this.
Spend Time with Them
I know it might sound silly but spending time with your grandparents or anyone else who is in this age group will help them. According to Henry Ford Health Dr. Hussaini explains that babysitting also boosts grandparents’ emotional health. “Research has shown that grandparents who enjoy quality bonding time with grandchildren have a lower risk of depression.” This displays how spending time with them can benefit the elderly person in your life to have health benefits if you spend time with them.
One of the suggestions I would have is to take them out when you have the time. If you have this time set aside, you can make them happier since I know that most grandparents like to have the company of a younger person.
Volunteer at a nursing home
Volunteering at a nursing home can also help the elderly since by being there you are providing them with a company and a new face to look at. Be a friendly face and don’t be a stranger when talking to the elderly person. This will always make their day better.
Play cards and ask them about their life since they will most likely have many different stories to share with you. Remember when in nursing home people will most likely feel depressed or lonely try to keep them company. Always be a bright light in their life.
Help them with tasks around the house
Some older people have mobility issues, so they might need help with some tasks. This can be as simple as helping them tend to their garden. Helping them with cleaning can also lift a huge weight off their chest. This will also have a good impact on their mental health.
Doing these things will also help them feel better about themselves in general.
